Sound Focusing
★Exhibit Content: Sound Reflection Focusing ★Interaction: Model Interaction ★Operation: 1. One visitor stands on the platform and speaks softly at the focal point of the parabolic surface (i.e., the small ring); 2. Another person places their ear at the focal point of the receiving parabolic surface and can clearly hear the other person speaking. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of two vertical parabolic surfaces. A participant speaks at the focal point in front of one parabolic surface. The sound waves are reflected by the parabolic surface and propagate toward the opposite parabolic surface in a nearly cylindrical form. After being focused by the parabolic surface, they reach the focal point (the small spoon on the opposite side). In this process, the loss of sound propagation is far lower than normal propagation, and the transmission efficiency is very high. Even a very soft sound can be heard by the other participant. ★Scientific Principle: When visitors put their ears close to the center of the device's fixed frame, faint sounds from a distance become louder. This is because "sound focusing" causes the sound from a distance to reflect and converge on its surface, changing the loudness of the sound. Sound focusing refers to the phenomenon where a concave surface forms concentrated reflection of sound waves, causing the reflected sound to focus in a certain area, making the sound particularly loud in that area. In daily life, when a sound source indoors emits sound, the sound waves will reflect when they hit walls, ceilings, and floors. Sound reflection follows the law of reflection. When the incident sound wave encounters a concave surface as a reflector, the reflected sound will concentrate together, forming sound focusing, which is similar to light focusing. Sound focusing causes excessive concentration of sound energy, making the sound at the convergence point noisy, while the listening conditions in other areas deteriorate, expanding the unevenness of the sound field and seriously affecting the audience's listening conditions.
