Rotating Music
★Exhibit Content: Timbre ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: Select a material and bring it close to the center of the disc, press the "Start" button to let the pendulum strike it, and listen to the melody produced. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit mainly consists of a motor-controlled rotating disc and props of different materials. A horizontal rod is set at the center of the disc, with a pendulum mounted at the end of the rod. Props of various materials are placed in the grooves on the tabletop. Visitors press the button to make the pendulum strike, allowing them to create their own music. The exhibit lets visitors strike different material props with the pendulum to make music, experience the joy of creating music, and understand that different material props produce different sounds. ★Scientific Principle: Timbre is related to the material and structure of the sound-producing body. When an object vibrates, it emits a fundamental tone, while its parts also have complex vibrations. The sounds produced by these vibrations combine into overtones. Compared with the fundamental tone, overtones have shorter wavelengths and weaker intensity, and cannot overpower the fundamental tone. It is the interweaving of fundamental tone and overtones that forms different timbres.
