Drumming Resonance
★Exhibit Content: Sound Resonance ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: Strike the drum surface and observe the vibration of particles inside the tube. ★Exhibit Description: When sound waves propagate longitudinally, they interfere with reflected waves, generating standing wave resonance. Consequently, the distribution of particles inside the tube exhibits alternating regions of density and rarefaction. ★Scientific Principle: As we all know, sound is a sound wave produced by object vibration. When we strike the drum surface at one end, we can see particles inside the tube jumping, and the vibration of particles in the middle of the tube is relatively intense, while the vibration at both ends is relatively weak. This is because this exhibit demonstrates the phenomenon of standing wave resonance of sound waves in physics. Sound waves propagate in the air in the form of longitudinal waves. When we strike the drum surface at one end, sound waves are excited. When these sound waves reach the opposite drum surface, they are reflected. Since the natural vibration frequencies of the two drum surfaces are the same, resonance occurs. Moreover, the sound waves generated at both ends propagate in opposite directions along the tube and superimpose, forming a standing wave inside the tube. Therefore, we can see that in the region inside the tube where the standing wave is formed, the sound vibration is most intense at the antinodes in the middle, so the particle vibration is also most intense, while at the nodes at both ends, the sound vibration is weakest, so the particles there hardly move.
