Sound and Materials

Acoustics

★Exhibit Content: Popular science on the three elements of sound and material properties ★Interaction: Multi-module interactive percussion device ★Operation: Visitors use the provided tools to strike different module materials, listen to the sound differences, and experience how different materials and structures affect pitch, loudness, and timbre. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit is a cylindrical interactive device containing four different percussion modules: "Pitch and Tube Length" (aluminum alloy tubes), "Eight-Tone Glockenspiel" (aluminum plate glockenspiel), "Striking the Wooden Fish" (wooden fish and bells), and "Pipe Music" (music tubes). By striking parts of different materials and lengths, visitors intuitively experience how the three elements of sound—pitch, loudness, and timbre—change with the vibration characteristics, material, and structure of objects, and understand the relationship between materials and sound. It is suitable for science popularization displays in science museums, youth activity centers, and physics/music science exhibition areas. ★Scientific Principle: The characteristics of sound are determined by the frequency, amplitude, and waveform of object vibrations. Different materials have different elasticity, density, and damping properties, which affect vibration frequency (pitch), amplitude (loudness), and vibration waveform (timbre). Therefore, striking different materials produces different sound effects.
