Acoustic Levitation
★Exhibit Content: Interaction between acoustic standing waves and objects ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: 1. Press the start button, and adjust the frequency by pressing "Frequency +" or "Frequency -"; 2. Observe the changes of the small balls in the acrylic tube, and think about why the balls float? ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a cylindrical resonant cavity, an ultrasonic transducer array, a reflecting end, and a levitation display platform. When the visitor starts the device, a stable acoustic standing wave is formed in the resonant cavity, and lightweight balls (such as foam balls, plastic particles) are captured at the nodes of the sound pressure wave and suspended in the air, slowly rotating or floating up and down. This exhibit transforms abstract acoustic principles into visible physical phenomena, allowing visitors to observe the energy form of sound waves up close and feel the "silent power". ★Scientific Principle: Acoustic levitation utilizes the interaction between acoustic standing waves and objects to generate a vertical levitation force to overcome the weight of the object, while generating a horizontal positioning force to fix the object at the nodes of the sound pressure wave. Acoustic levitation technology is divided into two types: three-axis and single-axis. This exhibit adopts single-axis technology, generating only one standing wave in the vertical direction, and its levitation and positioning force is provided by a certain mode of sound field excited by the cylindrical resonant cavity.
