Atmospheric Pressure at Different Altitudes
★Exhibit Content: Popular science on the relationship between atmospheric pressure and altitude ★Interaction: Interactive experience ★Operation: 1. Visitors lift steel columns of different weights with their hands; 2. The weight felt in the palm is the atmospheric pressure corresponding to the altitude; 3. Visually compare the atmospheric pressure differences at three altitudes: sea level, Mount Emei, and Mount Everest. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a display stand, three sets of steel columns of different weights, and an instruction sign. It is a recommended exhibit from the KexMall exhibit mall. The three sets of steel columns are vertically mounted on a backboard bracket, respectively simulating the atmospheric pressure corresponding to three altitudes: sea level, Mount Emei, and Mount Everest. Participants lift the three steel columns of different weights in sequence, directly perceiving the pressure difference through the sense of touch in their palms, transforming abstract, invisible atmospheric pressure into a hands-on weight experience, intuitively verifying the physical law that atmospheric pressure decreases with increasing altitude. ★Scientific Principle: This exhibit is based on the relationship between atmospheric pressure and altitude. Atmospheric pressure is essentially the pressure generated by the weight of the air itself. The lower the altitude, the longer the air column above and the greater the air density, resulting in higher atmospheric pressure; the higher the altitude, the shorter the air column above and the thinner the air, leading to lower atmospheric pressure. The exhibit uses steel columns of different masses to equivalently replace the weight of the air column per unit area at the corresponding altitude. The force used by visitors to lift the steel columns is equivalent to the atmospheric pressure at that location. Through hands-on lifting and comparison, visitors can intuitively understand the origin of atmospheric pressure, recognize the impact of altitude changes on air pressure, and grasp the basic physical law that air pressure decreases with increasing altitude.
