Attraction and Repulsion
★Exhibit Content: Attraction and Repulsion of Magnets ★Interaction: Manual Interaction ★Operation: Pick up the small magnet provided with the exhibit and bring it close to items of different materials on the wall; move the magnet and observe which items are attracted to the magnet and which are not. Then, bring two magnets close to each other to feel the phenomena of attraction and repulsion. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of an arched display frame, fixing brackets, multiple sets of physical components of different materials, and accompanying magnetic components. It is a recommended exhibit from the PopsciCat Exhibit Store. The exhibit panel is arranged with various common objects from daily life, including metal, plastic, and other materials. Visitors hold the magnet and approach each component in turn, testing the interaction between different materials and the magnet by hand. They can also operate pairs of magnetic blocks to observe the interaction between magnetic poles. Through hands-on exploration, visitors distinguish between materials that can be attracted by magnets and those that cannot, intuitively experience the interaction laws between the two poles of a magnet, and cultivate a rigorous and serious spirit of scientific inquiry. ★Scientific Principle: Magnets can attract ferromagnetic materials but cannot attract metals such as gold, silver, and copper, nor items like bricks, tiles, and plastics. Every magnet has two poles: N and S. When two magnets are brought close to each other, like poles repel and opposite poles attract. Ancient people observed the phenomenon of magnetite attracting iron very early. This exhibit uses intuitive hands-on experiments to let visitors personally experience the properties of magnetism and understand the basic electromagnetic laws of magnetic pole attraction and repulsion.
