Dancing Paperclip
★Exhibit Content: Magnetic Effect of Current ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: Press the "Start" button, select a track, and observe the state of the paperclips. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit mainly consists of a base, paperclips, coil device, music module, microcontroller system, etc. This exhibit is an electromechanical interactive device. The main interactive tabletop is divided into two parts: the upper part is an acrylic box with paperclips placed inside, and the lower part is a set of energized coils with a very large number of turns. Visitors start the device by pressing the button on the tabletop. Under program control, the energized coil is regularly powered on and off following the melody of the music, generating a changing magnetic field that drives the paperclips in the acrylic box to move. Visitors can watch the paperclips dance to the music and form various shapes, experiencing the beauty of art brought by technology. ★Scientific Principle: Why do the paperclips "dance" in an orderly manner to the rhythm of the music? Paperclips are iron products and can be attracted by magnets. This attraction occurs due to the magnetic field around the magnet. Below the paperclip stage, there is a coil. When the coil is energized, it generates a magnetic field and becomes an electric "magnet". The voltage across the coil fluctuates with the rhythm of the music, and the strength of the magnetic field changes accordingly. When the magnetic field becomes stronger, the paperclips overcome their own gravity and "stand up"; when the magnetic field weakens, the paperclips are pulled down by gravity. Thus, the paperclips dance to the rhythm of the music.
