Floating Ball in the Air

Children's Playground

★Exhibit Content: Bernoulli's Principle ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: 1. Place the ball in the ring at the bottom; 2. Press the start button and watch the ball move. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit is mainly composed of a display stand assembly, a C-shaped circular track mechanism, an airflow loop mechanism, multiple sets of bladeless fans, and an electronic control system. It is a recommended exhibit from the PopsciCat Exhibit Store. The overall exhibit is a large-curvature C-shaped three-dimensional frame, with independent ring stations evenly arranged on the track, and a material storage box at the bottom for storing colored lightweight balls. After starting the device, multiple sets of bladeless fans synchronously output directional airflow, forming a stable negative pressure field at each ring position. Participants place the lightweight ball into the bottom ring station. Under the action of the airflow, the ball continuously climbs upward along the C-shaped circular track, moves along the arc trajectory to the top of the track, then falls back from the highest point and lands in the bottom storage box for recycling. ★Scientific Principle: Daniel Bernoulli proposed Bernoulli's principle in 1726. It is a fundamental law in fluid mechanics describing ideal fluid flow. Its essence is the conservation of mechanical energy during fluid motion, that is, kinetic energy + gravitational potential energy + pressure potential energy = constant. The core corollary of this principle: for flow at the same height, the greater the fluid velocity, the lower the pressure at the corresponding position. In this exhibit, the fan sprays airflow at high speed. At the ring, the airflow velocity is high and the pressure is low, while the static air pressure around the ball is higher. The pressure difference generates a continuous inward pressure that confines the ball to the center of the ring. At the same time, the high-speed airflow exerts an upward lifting force, offsetting the ball's own gravity, allowing the ball to move upward along the curved track. This principle is widely used in engineering scenarios such as aircraft lift, car spoilers, and Venturi tubes, and is an important theoretical basis for aviation and fluid equipment design.
