Parachute

Children's Playground

★Exhibit Content: Air resistance, airflow lift, fluid mechanics ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: Place the folded parachute model at the air outlet at the bottom of the wind tunnel; press the start button, the bottom fan sends a stable upward airflow, observe the parachute floating and flying in the cylinder; repeatedly drop the parachute, observe the relationship between the canopy deployment shape and airflow lift. ★Exhibit Description: The "Parachute Wind Tunnel" is a circular vertical science exhibit on the theme of air resistance and lift, belonging to the fluid mechanics and aviation science exhibition area, and is a recommended exhibit of the PopsciCat Exhibit Store. The exhibit features a white and blue circular sheet metal base, with a vertical cylindrical transparent protective cover supported by a metal bracket above the base. Inside the cabinet, a high-power upward air supply fan and a wind speed stabilization control system are installed. The continuous upward airflow impacts the parachute canopy to generate lift, offsetting the model's gravity and allowing the parachute to float in the air, intuitively demonstrating the working principle of the parachute obtaining air resistance and airflow lift by increasing the contact area, simulating the physical process of a real parachute decelerating during descent. ★Scientific Principle: 1. The parachute relies on a large canopy to increase the contact area with air, using air resistance to slow down the descent speed; the upward airflow impacts the bottom of the canopy, forming upward lift. 2. When the lift generated by the upward airflow is greater than or equal to the weight of the parachute model, the parachute can float in the air; as the airflow speed changes, the lift changes accordingly, directly affecting the floating height of the parachute.
