Earthquake-Resistant Building Structures

Earth & Home

★Exhibit Content: Seismic Building Structures ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: Press the start button, select different earthquake levels, and observe and compare the seismic performance of 3 building structures. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a base, a vibration mechanism, and building models. The vibration mechanism simulates the transverse wave vibrations during an earthquake. By placing high-rise structures with different designs on the platform, which also has a base for a tuned mass damper model, the platform simulates seismic transverse waves. Observe the swaying degrees among different building structures to understand the roles of seismic structures and tuned mass dampers. Building structure models: choose from ordinary stair frame, diagonal braced shear wall frame, and damper frame configurations. ★Scientific Principle: By observing the seismic performance of structures with different seismic isolation and damping technologies under simulated earthquake conditions on the shaking table, visitors learn the significance and basic methods of building seismic resistance. Demonstrates the performance of seismic and non-seismic structures during earthquakes. Explains that using seismic structures in construction can effectively reduce building deformation. Demonstrates the principles of seismic and damping technologies, helps understand basic methods of building isolation and damping, and raises public awareness of earthquake disaster reduction.
