Formation of Rainwater
★Exhibit Content: Formation of Rain ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: Press the start button to observe the process of rain formation. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a base, protective cover, graphics, and a demonstration system. When visitors press the button, water vapor rises from the water surface, showing evaporation. The cloud simulates rain, accompanied by thunder. ★Scientific Principle: The formation of rain begins with water bodies on the Earth's surface, including oceans, lakes, rivers, and moisture in the soil. Under sunlight, these water bodies gradually evaporate into water vapor, which is the first critical step in rain formation. As the water vapor rises, the surrounding air temperature gradually decreases. When the water vapor encounters cold air, it loses energy and condenses into tiny water droplets or ice crystals; these tiny particles are the basis of clouds. A large number of water droplets or ice crystals gather together to form clouds visible to the naked eye. Within the cloud, water droplets and ice crystals collide and merge, gradually growing larger. When the water droplets or ice crystals in the cloud grow to a certain size, their weight exceeds the buoyancy of the air, and they begin to fall toward the ground. During this process, raindrops may continue to absorb surrounding water vapor and further increase in size. When raindrops pass through the cloud layer and enter the lower atmosphere, if they encounter warm, moist air, secondary condensation may occur, further increasing the raindrop volume. Eventually, when the raindrops are large enough and can no longer be supported by the air, they fall to the ground as rain.
