The Marvelous Sunflower
★Exhibit Content: Plant Phototropism ★Interaction: Mechanical Interaction ★Operation: Visitors operate the handle to move the sun and observe the changes in the sunflower. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit features a sunflower and related devices. By manipulating the position of the 'sun', visitors can observe the movement direction of the sunflower and discover its relationship with the sun. The exhibit consists of a display stand, lighting, a sunflower model, and a main control system. Above the exhibit, a movable lamp is suspended to simulate the regular movement of the sun. Below it, a sunflower made of photosensitive material is placed, and a movable handle is set on the outer display stand. The position of the sun changes with the visitor's operation and displays a certain time of the day. While moving the 'sun', visitors can find that the sunflower always faces the sun. ★Scientific Principle: Auxin in sunflowers is mainly produced at the stem tip and transported to the base. The distribution of auxin is affected by light. Auxin prefers shaded areas. Therefore, the side of the sunflower stem away from the sun has more auxin and grows faster, causing the sunflower head to face the sun. This exhibit is an electromechanical interactive device, focusing on letting visitors understand the principle of sunflowers turning toward the sun and recognizing the importance of the sun to life.
