Magic Sand Pool

Earth & Home

★Exhibit Content: Graphic Recognition ★Interaction: Multimedia Interaction ★Operation: Dig and pile up the sand, and see how the projected content changes with the terrain changes. ★Exhibit Description: This exhibit consists of a polygonal operation console cabinet, a sand pool trough, interactive sand, a top projection bracket, projection equipment, an image capture camera, a multimedia host, an interactive touch panel, and a 5mm thick acrylic UV-printed instruction sign. It is a recommended exhibit from the KexMall exhibit mall. Visitors dig and pile up the sand inside the sand pool to manually create undulating simulated terrain. The camera captures the terrain contour data of the sand surface in real time. The system processes the data through image recognition algorithms and drives the projector to project corresponding contour lines, terrain colors, and other visual images onto the sand surface. When the sand is piled high, it is recognized as a mountain; when the sand is dug low, it is recognized as a river valley or depression. The real-time changing projection images are linked with the actual sand pool terrain, visually explaining contour lines and topographic knowledge to visitors in a fun and interactive way. ★Scientific Principle: The exhibit relies on depth vision recognition technology. The camera collects height information of the sand pool surface. The computer calculates and analyzes the height data of each point, assigns different colors and contour patterns to different heights, and projects them onto the sand pool surface in real time via projection. In real geographic surveying and mapping, contour lines are closed curves connecting points of the same elevation on the ground, used to represent landforms such as mountains, basins, and river valleys on a flat map. This exhibit transforms abstract surveying knowledge into a hands-on physical interaction, lowering the threshold for understanding geographic and topographic knowledge.
