Which Lamp Saves More Energy
★Exhibit Content: Electrical Energy and Energy ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: Participants pedal the bicycle and observe which lamp is more energy-efficient. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a stationary power-generating bicycle and a light box equipped with three types of bulbs. Visitors generate electrical energy by pedaling the bicycle to light up an incandescent lamp, a fluorescent lamp, and an LED energy-saving lamp respectively, and observe how much pedaling effort they need to exert to keep the bulbs lit, thereby intuitively experiencing the difference in energy consumption among different lamps. ★Scientific Principle: Pedaling the bicycle generates electricity, and three groups of different types of bulbs in the light box light up. Based on the number of bulbs of each type that can be lit, it intuitively shows which lamp is more energy-efficient. An incandescent lamp is a bulb that heats the filament inside a glass bulb filled with inert gas to an incandescent state to emit light. Because most of the electrical energy is converted into heat, less than 2% of the electrical energy is converted into light, resulting in low efficiency. A fluorescent lamp uses high voltage to break down and conduct the mercury gas inside a glass tube; the mercury gas bombards the phosphor on the tube wall to emit light. Because it generates little heat (cold light source), it is highly efficient. An "LED" is composed of a semiconductor "PN" junction. When a forward electric field is applied across the "PN" junction, the barrier layer becomes thinner, and the exchange of positive and negative charges generates energy particles that bombard the fluorescent material to emit light, resulting in high efficiency.
