South-to-North Water Diversion

Earth & Home

★Exhibit Content: Layout of pumping stations and water conservancy hubs along the route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Eastern Route Project and the water transfer process ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: Rotate the handwheel to use the cam mechanism to transport the ball; observe the dynamic effect of the cold light panel behind to learn about the South-to-North Water Diversion Eastern Route Project. ★Exhibit Description: The South-to-North Water Diversion is a tabletop interactive science exhibit under the theme of water conservancy engineering, and is a recommended exhibit from the KexMall exhibit mall. The exhibit base contains a cam transmission mechanism. On the tabletop sandbox area, identification modules for pumping stations and water conservancy hubs along the Eastern Route Project are arranged. A transparent protective cover is provided externally to protect the sandbox model. Visitors rotate the handwheel to drive the internal cam mechanism, which moves balls to simulate the entire water diversion and conveyance process. At the same time, the cold light panel lights up synchronously, dynamically displaying the route of the Eastern Route water conveyance line. This simplifies the massive inter-basin water diversion project into an intuitive physical model demonstration, allowing visitors to intuitively understand the distribution of multi-stage pumping stations such as Baliwan Station and Denglou Station along the route, and to comprehend the water conveyance path of the Eastern Route Project. ★Scientific Principle: The Eastern Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project relies on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and parallel channels, and uses multi-stage pumping stations to raise the water level step by step, transporting water from the Yangtze River northward to water-scarce areas in the north. The terrain along the Eastern Route is low in the south and high in the north, so water cannot flow by gravity and must be lifted by a relay of multi-stage pumping stations along the route. The exhibit uses a cam-ball transmission to simulate the working logic of pumping stations raising water stage by stage, and with the cold light panel route demonstration, it concretely shows the engineering difficulties and operation mode of inter-basin water diversion.
