Magnetic Field Lines
★Exhibit Content: Magnetic Field Lines ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: Press the start button and observe the changes in the compass. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit mainly consists of a bar magnet and several small magnetic needles. Normally, the small magnetic needles point in the north-south direction of the Earth. However, in the magnetic field of a large magnet, the small magnetic needles are affected by the magnetic field lines. During participation, visitors can press the start button, the large magnet begins to rotate, and the surrounding small magnetic needles will be observed to rotate accordingly. ★Scientific Principle: Magnetic field lines, also called magnetic lines of force, are curves that visually depict the distribution of a magnetic field. The tangent direction at each point on the curve is consistent with the direction of the magnetic field at that point. The direction of magnetic induction intensity is the same as the tangent direction of the magnetic field line at that point, and its magnitude is proportional to the density of the magnetic field lines. What shape are magnetic field lines? Although we all know that magnets have a magnetic field, the direction of magnetic field lines around a magnet is from the N pole to the S pole, and inside the magnet from the S pole to the N pole, but both the magnetic field and magnetic field lines are invisible and intangible.

★Exhibit Content: Magnetic Field Distribution, Magnetic Field Line Model ★Interaction: Manual Interaction ★Operation: 1. Rotate the device angle; 2. Move the magnet up and down; 3. Observe the changes in the direction of the magnetic needles. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a square base, a rotating base, a transparent grid frame, a liftable bar magnet, and multiple sets of small magnetic needle components. It is a recommended exhibit from the PopsciCat Exhibit Store. Visitors can rotate the device and raise/lower the magnet to intuitively observe all the small magnetic needles within the frame changing direction according to the magnetic field, simulating the distribution pattern of magnetic field lines and visualizing the invisible magnetic field. ★Scientific Principle: Magnetic field lines are a physical model describing the distribution of a magnetic field; they do not actually exist in reality. Small magnetic needles in a magnetic field are subjected to magnetic force, and when at rest, their two poles point along the direction of the magnetic field. The direction of the magnetic field varies at different positions within the field, so the small magnetic needles point in different directions. This model can intuitively demonstrate the distribution pattern of the magnetic field around a bar magnet, helping to understand the magnetic field as a special form of matter.
