Conductors and Insulators

Electromagnetism

★Exhibit Content: Conductors and insulators, human body conductivity ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: 1. Place different materials on the conductive cylinders and observe the changes in the car and lights; 2. Hold the conductive cylinders with both hands and observe the changes in the car and lights. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit features a conductor and insulator experiment platform, which consists of a car, a complete circuit, a light strip, two conductive cylinders, and various experimental materials (plastic, glass, wooden sticks, cardboard, stone, metal wire, etc.). Visitors can place the above objects on the conductive cylinders respectively and observe whether the car runs and whether the middle light turns on, thereby determining whether the material is a conductor or an insulator, and classify the identified materials into two categories. They can also try holding the two conductive cylinders with both hands to determine whether the human body conducts electricity. ★Scientific Principle: The exhibit allows visitors to understand which items we commonly encounter in daily life are conductors, which are insulators, which conductors have strong conductivity, and which have weak conductivity. After an atom gains (or loses) electrons, it is no longer called an atom but an ion. Under the same ion concentration, the more charges each ion carries, the stronger its ability to transport charges, i.e., the stronger its conductivity. The human body can conduct electricity because it contains various trace elements such as calcium, sodium, and potassium. Also, because human skin sweat contains a large amount of water, and water contains a large amount of electrolytes, this exhibit uses human hands as electrolytes to generate current, and observe the brightness of the light and the movement of the car. This shows that humans are conductors, and we should pay attention to safe electricity use in daily life.
