Static Whirl
★Exhibit Content: Electrostatic force ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: Continuously turn the handwheel, drop the ball from different ball inlets, and observe the changes in the ball's motion under the electrostatic force. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a bowl with a ring of iron pieces attached, an acrylic ball inlet, a ball, and a handwheel. During participation, visitors turn the handwheel and drop the ball into the bowl through the ball inlet, observe the ball's motion state inside the bowl, and will find that the ball continuously revolves inside the bowl. Through interaction and observation, visitors understand that like charges repel and opposite charges attract. ★Scientific Principle: Metal pieces are evenly bonded to the concave pot, and two adjacent metal piece electrodes have opposite polarities. When the handwheel is turned, the two charge plates of the Wimshurst influence electrostatic generator rotate in opposite directions to generate static electricity, energizing the positive and negative electrodes. The interactive ball has a conductive coating on its surface. When dropped, if it passes the negative electrode, it becomes negatively charged, and is then repelled by the negative electrode and attracted to the positive electrode; after reaching the positive electrode, it becomes positively charged again, and thus performs revolving motion in a cycle.

★Exhibit Content: Electrostatic phenomena, laws of interaction between charges ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: 1. Press the left button and observe the ball's motion; 2. Turn the handwheel to start the electrostatic generator and observe the experimental phenomena produced. ★Exhibit Description: This exhibit is a desktop interactive science exhibit on the theme of static electricity. The whole machine integrates a Wimshurst influence electrostatic generator, a concave bowl with alternating electrodes, a conductive ball, a handwheel turning mechanism, and an integrated operation console. The generator part is equipped with a transparent acrylic protective cover for easy observation of the internal structure. Visitors can either press the button to start the device or manually turn the handwheel to drive the electrostatic generator, causing adjacent metal pieces in the concave bowl to carry alternating positive and negative charges. The conductive-coated ball falls into the bowl and continuously revolves under the alternating action of electrostatic repulsion and attraction. Through the intuitive and visible dynamic motion of the ball, the invisible electrostatic force is transformed into a visible phenomenon, helping visitors understand electrostatic induction and the interaction between charges. ★Scientific Principle: Turning the handwheel drives the two disks of the Wimshurst generator to rotate in opposite directions, generating high-voltage static electricity through friction and electrostatic induction, causing adjacent metal pieces inside the concave bowl to carry charges of opposite polarity. After the conductive-coated ball contacts the metal pieces, it carries the corresponding charge. Under the action of like charges repelling and opposite charges attracting, the ball continuously alternates charging between positive and negative electrodes, and under the alternating action of repulsion and attraction, it continuously performs revolving motion, intuitively demonstrating the physical laws of electrostatic induction and charge interaction.
