Beautiful Glow

Electromagnetism

★Exhibit Content: Popular science on plasma physics and glow discharge phenomena ★Interaction: Multi-module glow interactive demonstration device ★Operation: Visitors touch or approach the glow ball, glow plate, and glow column with their hands, and observe the glow being "attracted" to the finger position. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit mainly consists of a base, glow ball, glow plate, glow column, etc. When a hand is placed on the surface, a discharge channel forms between the hand and the electrode, and the glow in this area becomes brighter. As the finger moves, the discharge channel moves accordingly. "Beautiful Glow" is an immersive interactive science exhibit centered on plasma physics and glow discharge phenomena. It consists of three major demonstration modules: a 10-inch glow ball, a 10-inch glow plate, and a Φ100×400mm glow column. A high-frequency high-voltage power supply excites inert gas to produce brilliant plasma glow. ★Scientific Principle: When visitors touch or approach the device with their hands, the human body acts as a conductor and changes the electric field distribution. The glow is "attracted" to the finger position, forming a discharge channel that moves with the fingertip, allowing an intuitive understanding of the characteristics of plasma and the principles of glow discharge amid visual awe. 1. Glow discharge: When a high-frequency high-voltage electric field is applied to a low-pressure inert gas, gas molecules are ionized to form plasma. When electrons and ions recombine, energy is released, producing visible light, i.e., glow. 2. Electric field distortion effect: The human body is a good conductor. When a hand approaches the device, it changes the local electric field distribution, causing the plasma channel to converge toward the region of higher electric field strength (toward the finger), forming the phenomenon of "glow following the finger." 3. Plasma characteristics: Plasma is the fourth state of matter, with good electrical conductivity and responsiveness to electric fields. It is widely used in fluorescent lamps, plasma televisions, industrial cutting, and other fields.
