Floating Magnet

Electromagnetism

★Exhibit Content: Electromagnetic Induction and Eddy Current Phenomena ★Interaction: Mechanical interactive device ★Operation: Visitors manually move the strong magnet on the copper column using a pin, observe the changes in the motion state of the magnet ball inside the column, and intuitively experience electromagnetic damping and eddy current effects. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of two half-sectioned copper columns, a magnet device, and a circular magnet. Participants can move the magnet on the copper column to observe the state of the magnet ball inside the copper column, thereby understanding the eddy current phenomenon. By manually moving the magnet on the column, visitors observe the motion state of the internal magnet ball. Through the intuitive experience of "slower falling" and "suspension feeling", they deeply understand how eddy currents are generated and how they hinder changes in the magnetic field, thus unveiling the application of electromagnetic induction in the real world. ★Scientific Principle: When an external strong magnet slides outside the copper column, the magnetic flux inside the column changes, and eddy currents are induced in the copper (conductor); according to Lenz's law, the magnetic field generated by the eddy currents opposes the change in the original magnetic field, exerting an electromagnetic damping force on the internal magnet ball, significantly slowing its motion and presenting a "suspension" or "slow falling" effect. 1. Law of Electromagnetic Induction: When an external strong magnet slides outside the copper column, the magnetic flux inside the column changes, and eddy currents are induced in the copper column (conductor). 2. Lenz's Law: The magnetic field generated by the eddy currents opposes the change in the original magnetic field, exerting a resistance (electromagnetic damping) on the internal magnet ball, significantly slowing its motion and presenting a visual effect of "suspension" or "slow falling".
