Floating Magnet
★Exhibit Content: Characteristics of the two poles of a magnet, principle of magnetic force ★Interaction: Model interaction ★Operation: 1. Visitors approach the exhibit and read the operation instructions. 2. Try to bring any two adjacent floating magnets together and feel the interaction between the magnets. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of multiple strong magnets, an operation console, and a magnetic levitation demonstration device. When visitors try to bring any two adjacent floating magnets together, they will find that no matter how hard they try, the magnets always repel and push each other away, thereby intuitively experiencing the existence of magnetic force. ★Scientific Principle: Through observation and operation, visitors can understand the characteristics of the two poles of a magnet—like poles repel, opposite poles attract—and recognize the applications of this principle in compasses, maglev trains, and other fields. Magnets were not invented by humans but are natural magnetite. When a bar magnet is suspended by a thin string at its midpoint, when at rest, its two ends will point toward the Earth's south and north respectively. The end pointing north is called the north pole, marked as N; the end pointing south is the south pole, marked as S. If the south poles of two magnets, or the north poles of two magnets, are placed together, the two magnets will repel each other; if the south pole of one magnet and the north pole of another are placed together, they will attract each other. This is the characteristic of magnets: like poles repel, opposite poles attract.
