The Mysterious Magnetic Force
★Exhibit Content: Magnetic properties, differences in magnetic permeability of different materials ★Interaction: Mechanical interaction ★Operation: Turn the two handwheels "Rotate" or "Lift" respectively to control the magnet's up, down, left, and right movement. Observe the attraction of three small hands made of different materials—stainless steel, plastic, and iron—and the movement of the iron chain. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a screw lifting assembly, a swing rod assembly, handwheel assemblies, and a protective cover for three small hands (stainless steel, plastic, iron) on an iron chain. The magnet is mounted on a screw mechanism, and two handwheels are set on the tabletop to control the magnet's lifting and left-right movement respectively. One end of the iron chain is fixed to the tabletop. When visitors turn the handwheels to lower the magnet to a certain height, under the influence of magnetic force, the iron hand will be attracted and lifted, while the stainless steel and plastic hands will not be attracted. Visitors can also control the magnet to swing left and right via the handwheels, making the movement of the iron chain more varied and interesting. ★Scientific Principle: Magnetism is the force exerted by a magnetic field on a magnet or ferromagnetic material placed within it. Iron is a typical ferromagnetic material and will be attracted by a magnet; stainless steel (non-ferromagnetic type) and plastic are non-magnetic materials and will not be attracted by a magnet. Through comparative experiments, this exhibit visually demonstrates the differences in magnetic permeability of different materials, helping to understand the characteristics of magnetic fields.
