Magnetic Damping
★Exhibit Content: Magnetic damping phenomenon, electromagnetic induction resistance ★Interaction: Mechanical interaction ★Operation: 1. Pick up any two sliding rings and slide them to the top of the rod; 2. Release the sliding rings simultaneously and observe which one falls first; 3. Compare the falling speed differences of sliding rings made of different materials to understand the effect of magnetic damping. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a lower flange, upper frame, damping tube, sliding rings, tabletop, etc. Visitors need to slide the rings from the top of the tube and let them fall freely, watching the order in which they fall to understand the effect of magnetic damping. ★Scientific Principle: When a conductor moves in a magnetic field, it cuts the magnetic lines of force and generates an induced current. This induced current, in turn, creates an electromagnetic force that opposes the motion of the conductor, known as magnetic damping force. Conductors of different materials (such as metals and non-metals) experience different magnitudes of magnetic damping force when moving in a magnetic field, resulting in differences in falling speed. This exhibit visually demonstrates the working principle of magnetic damping through the comparison of falling sliding rings.
