Magnetic Wave

Electromagnetism

★Exhibit Content: Popular science experience of magnetic field interaction and mechanical wave propagation laws ★Interaction: Manual mechanical interactive demonstration ★Operation: Toggle the lever and observe the disturbance between the magnet plates being transmitted sequentially, forming a wave pattern with alternating compressions and rarefactions. ★Exhibit Description: "Magnetic Wave" is an interactive exhibit for popular science on waves and electromagnetism, belonging to the Wave Physics Exhibition Area, and is a recommended exhibit by the PopsciCat Exhibit Store. The exhibit consists of a circular white and blue painted round platform, a fully transparent annular acrylic protective cover, an annular track, 40 sets of red and blue paired magnet plates, a manual toggle lever, ambient backlighting, and popular science signage. Initially, all magnet plates are in magnetic equilibrium. When the visitor toggles the lever to create a local disturbance, the disturbance is transmitted without contact through magnetic force, propagating sequentially like dominoes. The spacing between magnet plates changes regularly in density, visually simulating the propagation of mechanical waves and electromagnetic waves. ★Scientific Principle: Each magnet plate forms a magnetic field around it, and there is mutual attraction or repulsion between magnets. At rest, the 40 sets of magnets are in force equilibrium; when manually disturbed, the spacing between magnets changes, and the forces change synchronously. The disturbance is transmitted sequentially through magnetic force without contact, forming a continuous chain reaction, and the magnet array exhibits a wave pattern with alternating compressions and rarefactions. This model intuitively demonstrates that wave propagation does not require direct contact of a medium, analogous to the propagation laws of electromagnetic waves and sound waves.
