Induced Geomagnetism
★Exhibit Content: Through mechanical interactive experience, perceive the existence of the Earth's magnetic field and demonstrate the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: 1. Read the exhibit description plate to grasp basic science knowledge; 2. Turn the operating handwheel on the outside of the exhibit to drive the geomagnetic induction ring to rotate 360°; 3. Adjust the protective cover to change the orientation of the ring, cutting the Earth's magnetic field at different angles; 4. Compare with the compass and observe the deflection changes of the microampere-type ammeter pointer; 5. Compare the current readings corresponding to different orientations, and observe the experimental phenomenon that the current is maximum when cutting in the east-west direction; 6. Stop turning the handwheel after the experiment ends. ★Exhibit Description: This exhibit is an electromagnetic electromechanical interactive science exhibit, consisting of a base, tabletop, cylindrical acrylic transparent protective cover, rotating bracket, operating handwheel, geomagnetic induction ring mechanism, compass, microampere-type ammeter, and wheel transmission mechanism. Visitors turn the handwheel to drive the copper coil ring to complete a 360-degree rotation through mechanical transmission. The coil cuts the magnetic field lines within the Earth's magnetic field, thereby generating a weak induced current, and the ammeter can intuitively display the current magnitude. With the compass for orientation positioning, it can be observed that the induced signal is strongest when the coil cuts the geomagnetic field along the east-west direction of the Earth, thus converting the invisible geomagnetic field into an observable electrical signal, intuitively demonstrating the objective existence of the Earth's magnetic field and the principle of electromagnetic induction. ★Scientific Principle: Based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, a closed conductor coil cutting magnetic field lines generates an induced current. The Earth has its own magnetic field. When the geomagnetic induction ring rotates, the effective component of cutting the magnetic field lines differs at different orientations; when the ring is in the east-west direction, the cutting efficiency is highest, the generated induced current is maximum, and the deflection amplitude of the ammeter pointer also increases accordingly.
