Lenz's Jumping Ring

Electromagnetism

★Exhibit Content: Electromagnetic Induction Phenomenon, Lenz's Law ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: 1. Press the button, the coil is energized, observe the aluminum ring jumping phenomenon. ★Exhibit Description: This exhibit is a recommended exhibit from the PopsciCat Exhibit Store. The exhibit consists of left and right vertical stands, excitation coil, curved guide rod, aluminum ring, and control module. When the visitor presses the start button, the excitation coil is instantly supplied with a large current to generate a rapidly changing magnetic field, and an induced current is generated in the aluminum ring, forming a magnetic field; according to Lenz's law, the magnetic field of the aluminum ring and the coil's magnetic field repel each other, and the aluminum ring jumps up along the curved guide rod. Through the intuitive jumping phenomenon, it vividly demonstrates electromagnetic induction and Lenz's law, transforming abstract electromagnetic theory into a visual experiment, suitable for science popularization teaching in physics electromagnetism-themed exhibition halls. ★Scientific Principle: When a large current is instantly passed through an excitation coil with many turns, a drastically changing magnetic field is generated. The aluminum ring is a closed conductor; the magnetic flux passing through the aluminum ring changes, generating an induced electromotive force and induced current inside the aluminum ring, and the induced current excites an induced magnetic field. According to Lenz's law, the induced magnetic field opposes the change in magnetic flux that causes the induced current. The induced magnetic field of the aluminum ring and the coil's magnetic field repel each other, causing the aluminum ring to jump upward along the curved track.
