Sense Hot and Cold

Life & Health

★Exhibit Content: Skin Sensation ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: 1. Touch the left and right ends of the copper tube with both hands separately to feel cold and warm sensations; 2. After about ten seconds, touch the alternating hot and cold section in the middle of the copper tube with both hands simultaneously to experience the sensation on the skin of your hands. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a display stand, a round tube, a heating system, a cooling system, and a controller. It mainly demonstrates the difference between the human body's cold and warm sensations, allowing visitors to understand that human skin has special cold spots and warm spots for sensing "cold" and "warm", namely cold receptors and warm receptors on the skin surface. The exhibit features a copper tube cylinder, with the left end at about 15 degrees, the right end at about 45 degrees, and the middle alternating between 15 and 45 degrees. After touching both ends of the exhibit, visitors quickly touch the alternating hot and cold section in the middle of the copper tube to feel a stinging or burning sensation in their hands, thereby understanding the brain's cognitive illusion. ★Scientific Principle: Skin sensation is produced by sensory organs in the skin. Skin sensations include touch, pressure, vibration, pain, cold, and temperature sensations. The nerve receptors in human skin include Pacinian corpuscles, touch-pressure receptors, etc. When a stimulus acts on the skin without causing deformation, it produces a touch sensation; when it causes deformation, it produces a pressure sensation. Both touch and pressure are passive touch; the combination of touch and vibration produces active touch.
