Bones and Joints
★Exhibit Content: Popular science on the structure of the human skeletal system, joint functions, and movement mechanisms ★Interaction: Dynamic spinning bike mechanical linkage + skeleton/joint anatomical models + illustrated display wall ★Operation: When visitors ride the dynamic spinning bike, the linked skeleton model moves synchronously, visually demonstrating the activity of bones and joints during cycling; meanwhile, they can observe the joint anatomical models and illustrated panels to learn about bone composition, joint structure, and movement principles. ★Exhibit Overview: "Bones and Joints" is a life science popularization installation for the public, vividly presenting the structure and function of the human skeletal system through a combination of mechanical interaction and model display. By riding the dynamic spinning bike, visitors can intuitively experience the coordinated action of bones and joints during movement; combined with a full-body skeleton model, joint anatomical models, and illustrated panels, they can learn about bone composition, classification, joint structure types, and the important roles of bones in supporting the body, protecting internal organs, movement, and blood cell production. ★Scientific Principle: The human skeleton supports the body and is part of the human movement system. An adult has 206 bones, divided into three major parts: skull, trunk bones, and limb bones, including 29 skull bones, 51 trunk bones, and 126 limb bones. However, Chinese and Japanese people have only 204 bones because the fifth toe bone in Chinese people has only 2 segments, while Caucasians have 3, so Chinese people have 2 fewer bones than Caucasians. Bones are generally connected by joints and ligaments. Except for the 6 auditory ossicles which belong to sensory organs, by location they can be divided into 23 skull bones, 51 trunk bones, and 126 limb bones.
