Binaural Effect
★Exhibit Content: Human ear auditory characteristics, binaural effect sound localization science popularization electromechanical interactive experience ★Interaction: Listen to sound source, determine sound direction, press buttons to answer, indicator lights feedback correct or incorrect human-machine interaction ★Operation: 1. Press the start button, 5 speakers on the curved wall sound sequentially from left to right, completing the sound source position demonstration. 2. The device enters test mode, randomly driving one of the speakers to emit sound. 3. Rely on hearing to determine the sound source direction, press the corresponding numbered button on the operation panel. 4. Observe the red and green indicator lights, check the judgment result, and repeatedly experience the binaural localization rule. ★Exhibit Description: The "Binaural Effect" is a science popularization exhibit with a curved cabinet themed on human ear direction perception, belonging to the acoustics science popularization area, and a recommended exhibit by PopsciCat Exhibit Store. The exhibit uses a green-framed curved enclosed cabinet, with 6 speakers evenly arranged on the inner curved wall, and an independent operation console in front, with 7 function buttons and red and green status indicator lights on the panel. The exhibit simulates sound sources from different directions, utilizing the physiological principle of volume difference, time difference, and timbre difference when sound is received by both ears, allowing visitors to personally try to distinguish sound direction by hearing alone, intuitively understand the binaural effect, and recognize the formation mechanism of human stereo hearing. ★Scientific Principle: 1. Binaural effect: When human ears receive sound, there are time differences, loudness differences, and timbre differences; the brain relies on these differences to determine the sound source direction. 2. The distance from the sound source to the two ears is different, so the arrival time and intensity of sound waves at the two ears differ; the brain constructs spatial hearing based on this to judge the sound location. 3. It is difficult to accurately locate a sound source with one ear; only with both ears working together can stereo directional perception be achieved. Stereo and surround sound technologies are all developed based on the binaural effect.
