Topology
★Exhibit Content: Topology ★Interaction: Mechanical Interaction ★Operation: Try to untangle the topological combination. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of several sets of topological components made of stainless steel and soft rope. Fixed on the tabletop for visitor participation. By applying complex topological knowledge to simple toys, the exhibit allows visitors to understand the characteristics of topology through play, learn related knowledge, and exercise thinking skills. The topological toy consists of some upright posts and rings or irregular loops, with a rope connected end-to-end and wound around them. Visitors must figure out how to free the rope from the stainless steel structure without breaking the rope. Topology is a branch of mathematics that studies properties of geometric figures or spaces that remain unchanged under continuous deformation. ★Scientific Principle: What is topology? Topology studies certain properties of geometric figures that remain invariant when the figures are bent, stretched, shrunk, or arbitrarily deformed, as long as the deformation does not cause originally distinct points to coincide and does not create new points. In other words, the condition for such a transformation is that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the points of the original figure and the points of the transformed figure, and neighboring points remain neighboring points. Such a transformation is called a topological transformation.
