Slicing Geometric Solids
★Exhibit Content: Cross-sections of Geometric Solids ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: 1. Press the "Start" button to activate the light beam, and bring the geometric solid model into the interaction area; 2. Observe the cross-section shape of the geometric solid "cut" by the light beam; 3. Rotate the geometric solid to see if the cross-section shape changes. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a line laser, various common transparent geometric solids, a laser bracket, a geometric solid storage box, and operation buttons. Visitors press the "Start" button to activate the line laser, generating a fan-shaped laser cutting plane. Place the transparent geometric solid under the laser cutting plane to simulate cutting, and the laser leaves various shapes of cross-sections on the geometric solid. ★Scientific Principle: The exhibit is set up with a circular frame and a transparent sphere on the platform. Select any geometric solid and place it in the center of the ring frame. The laser generator on the frame creates a cutting plane formed by laser beams on the ring, allowing visitors to understand the relationship between planes and solids through operation. For a geometric solid, are the cross-sections formed by "cutting" at different positions the same? In solid geometry, a cross-section refers to the plane figure obtained by intersecting a plane with a geometric solid (such as a cylinder, cone, sphere, rectangular prism, etc.). The cross-section shapes of the same geometric solid at different positions are not all the same. For example, for a cone, the cross-section shape may be a circle, an ellipse, or a triangle or quadrilateral.
