Cylinder, Cone and Sphere

Mathematics

★Exhibit Content: The volume relationship between a cylinder, a cylinder and a sphere ★Interaction: Mechanical interaction ★Operation: Turn the disc and observe the flow and filling status of the liquid between the geometric containers in the two sets of devices. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of two rotatable discs, two spherical containers, one cylindrical container, four conical containers, and blue liquid. When visitors turn the discs and watch the blue liquid, they will find that when the diameter and height of a cylinder equal the diameter of a sphere, the volume of the sphere is two-thirds of that of the cylinder; when the radius and height of a cone equal the radius of a sphere, its volume is one-quarter of that of the sphere. ★Scientific Principle: In the left device, the diameter and height of the cylinder are equal to the diameter of the sphere, i.e., the cylinder circumscribes the sphere. In this case, the volume ratio of the sphere to the cylinder is 2:3, meaning the volume of the sphere is exactly two-thirds of the cylinder's volume. In the right device, the diameter of the sphere is equal to the diameter of the cone, and the radius of the sphere is equal to the height of the cone. In this case, the volume ratio of the sphere to the cone is 4:1, meaning the volume of the sphere is exactly four times that of a single cone.
