Minimal Surface

Mathematics

★Exhibit Content: Minimal Surfaces ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: Press the "Start" button and observe the soap bubble state as the wire props are lifted out of the water. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit mainly consists of a display stand, container, soap solution, lighting, and wire props shaped into various forms. When visitors participate, pressing the button activates an electric lifting mechanism that immerses the props into the soap solution and then withdraws them, allowing observation of the fascinating soap film surfaces (minimal surfaces). An information board on the stand introduces the applications of minimal surfaces in daily life and scientific research. ★Scientific Principle: In mathematics, a minimal surface is a surface with zero mean curvature. In physics, an example of a minimal surface obtained by minimizing area is a soap bubble blown after dipping in soap solution. The extremely thin surface film of a soap bubble is called a soap film, which is the surface with the smallest area that satisfies the surrounding air conditions and the shape of the bubble blower.
