Cycling Relay

Mathematics

★Exhibit Content: Concept of distance, mechanical transmission principles ★Interaction: Mechanical interaction ★Operation: 1. Visitors approach the exhibit and read the operation instructions; 2. Get on the bicycle and pedal; 3. Observe the gear mechanism rotating, the bell ringing, and the mileage display to experience the concept of different distances. ★Exhibit Description: "Cycling Relay" is an interactive game exhibit focused on length units and mechanical transmission science, designed for mathematics and physics science exhibition areas, and is a recommended exhibit of the KexMall exhibit mall. The exhibit consists of a floor-standing bicycle, a multi-stage gear reduction mechanism on the wall, a bell device, and a mileage display screen. By riding the bicycle, visitors drive the transmission mechanism, causing gears marked with different distances to rotate in sequence and trigger the bell, intuitively experiencing the magnitude differences of distances such as 100 meters, 1 kilometer, 10 kilometers, and even a trip around the Earth or to the Moon. At the same time, they learn about the transmission principle of gear reduction mechanisms, building a concept of length through fun interaction. ★Scientific Principle: The exhibit is based on the principle of gear reduction transmission, using multi-stage gear sets to achieve different transmission ratios: the power from pedaling is transmitted to the gear set through the transmission mechanism, and the gear speed decreases step by step as the number of stages increases. Each stage of gears corresponds to a different distance unit (e.g., 100m, 1km, 10km...). When the corresponding gear rotates one full turn, it represents the completion of that distance, and triggers the bell to ring, allowing visitors to intuitively perceive the change in distance magnitude. In addition, through scenario-based designs such as "a trip around the Earth" and "journey to the Moon", the exhibit concretizes abstract distance concepts, helping visitors understand distance differences at macroscopic scales.
