Functions and Inverse Functions

Mathematics

★Exhibit Content: Interactive experience for popular science of elementary functions and inverse functions image symmetry relationship, mapping logic mathematics ★Interaction: Manual flip board flipping observation interaction ★Operation: Grip the device handle and flip the transparent glass board, observe the position changes of the function (y=3x-2) and its inverse function (y=(x+2)/3) marked on the board, and intuitively view the symmetry characteristics after flipping. ★Exhibit Description: "Function and Inverse Function" is a desktop interactive exhibit for popular science of function knowledge for middle and high school students, belonging to the algebraic function mathematics exhibition area, and is a recommended exhibit of PopsciCat Exhibit Store. The exhibit adopts a standard rectangular operation console in white and blue color scheme, with a transparent acrylic drawing board with a flip axis standing on the tabletop. The drawing board is pre-set with a plane rectangular coordinate system and two sets of half-function images; it is equipped with a metal flip handle structure and an acrylic instruction sign printed with detailed explanation content. By flipping the drawing board, visitors can intuitively see the geometric characteristics of the original function and inverse function being symmetric along the line (y=x), transforming the abstract inverse mapping relationship into visualized image changes, reducing the difficulty of understanding function knowledge points. ★Scientific Principle: A function is a correspondence that maps input x to output y. The inverse function reverses the input-output logic of the original function: the original function (y=f(x)) has input x and output y, and its inverse function (g(y)=x) satisfies (g(f(x))=x) and (f(g(y))=y). Their graphs are symmetric about the line (y=x). Taking (y=3x-2) in the exhibit as an example, solving for the inverse function gives \(y=frac{x+2}{3}). After flipping the drawing board along (y=x), the two sets of images can completely coincide, intuitively verifying the symmetry property of the original function and inverse function, and concretely presenting their inverse mapping rule.
