Spherical Projection

Mathematics

★Exhibit Content: Central projection, spherical light and shadow geometry, similar transformation optics mathematics electromechanical interactive experience ★Interaction: Button-activated light source + handwheel adjustment of light source distance for light and shadow observation interaction ★Operation: 1. Press the metal start button on the tabletop to light up the internal point light source; 2. Rotate the transparent damping handwheel to adjust the distance between the light source and the hollow spherical model forward and backward, observe the size and shape changes of the projection pattern on the tabletop, and summarize the corresponding relationship between light source distance and projection scaling. ★Exhibit Description: "Spherical Projection" is a circular tabletop science exhibit integrating optics and analytical geometry, belonging to the geometric optics and projection transformation mathematics exhibition area, and is a recommended exhibit by KexMall. The exhibit uses a white and blue ring-shaped circular floor-standing operation console. The central blue-bordered positioning area on the tabletop is equipped with a transparent dustproof acrylic protective cover, inside which a hollow metal spherical model is placed; on one side of the tabletop, a metal start button and a transparent adjustment handwheel are set. Inside the cabinet, a forward and backward movable LED point light source module and a gear adjustment transmission structure are installed. A UV-printed science description plate is laid on the tabletop. By changing the distance between the light source and the sphere, the central projection imaging law is intuitively presented, transforming the three-dimensional spherical structure into a two-dimensional plane projection, concretely demonstrating the projection geometry principles of similar transformation and near-large-far-small. ★Scientific Principle: This exhibit adopts a point light source central projection model. Light travels in straight lines. The hollow spherical structure blocks the light and forms a plane projection on the tabletop: 1. When the light source is close to the sphere, the light scattering angle is larger, and the projection pattern is enlarged; 2. When the light source is far from the sphere, the light scattering angle narrows, and the projection pattern is reduced; The projection pattern and the hollow spherical structure are similar figures. Distance change only alters the scaling ratio, while the figure structure remains consistent. This intuitively explains the geometric laws of central projection and similar transformation, and is also the basic principle of cameras, projectors, and perspective drawing.
