Which Falls First? (Free Fall)

Aerospace

★Exhibit Content: Vacuum, Gravity ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: Visitors press the button to rotate the transparent tube; observe the entire process of the ball and feather falling. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit simulates two different falling environments, one containing air and the other in a vacuum. Visitors rotate the tubes to make the feather and ball fall simultaneously, and observe the relationship between the falling time of the feather and the environment. ★Scientific Principle: An object that falls without any resistance and only under the action of gravity is called 'free fall'. For example, an object that starts falling from rest under the Earth's gravity. The space near the Earth's surface can be regarded as a uniform gravitational field. If air resistance is not considered, the free fall motion in this region is uniformly accelerated linear motion. The motion of a conventional object under only gravity with zero initial velocity is called free fall motion. Free fall motion is an idealized physical model. The speed of free fall is independent of the object's mass, so in a vacuum, a feather and an iron ball fall at the same speed.
