Stiffening Rope (Flying Rope)

Force & Mechanics

★Exhibit Content: Inertia of circular motion ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: 1. Press the "Start" button, the rope slowly flies up, observe the movement pattern of the rope; 2. Turn the handle to control the direction of the rope's movement, observe the movement pattern of the rope. ★Exhibit Description: Through electromechanical interaction, understand the principle of inertia. The exhibit consists of a wheel mechanism and a rope. The wheel mechanism includes a driving wheel and a driven wheel, with the rope clamped between the wheels. When participating, the visitor presses the "Start" button, the motor drives the wheels to rotate, and due to the friction between the two wheels, the wheels drive the rope to move. By turning the handle, the direction of the flying rope made by Shanghai Inertia is controlled, and the form of the flying rope is observed. ★Scientific Principle: The property of an object to maintain a state of rest or uniform linear motion is called inertia. Inertia is an inherent property of an object, manifested as a degree of resistance to changes in its state of motion, and mass is a measure of the inertia of an object. When the net external force acting on an object is zero, inertia manifests as the object maintaining its state of motion, i.e., remaining at rest or in uniform linear motion; when the net external force acting on an object is not zero, inertia manifests as the ease or difficulty with which the external force changes the object's state of motion.
