Inertia Cart
★Exhibit Content: Law of Inertia ★Interaction: Mechanical Interaction ★Operation: Visitors pull the pendulum up and then release it, observing the motion of the cart. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a platform, a cart with a counterweight, and a slide rail. Through visitor operation, it demonstrates the principle of inertia. Visitors pull the pendulum up, causing it to deviate from the equilibrium position, and then release it, allowing the pendulum to swing under gravity. The cart moves accordingly, but the momentum of the cart always remains equal in magnitude and opposite in direction to the momentum of the ball, thus maintaining the momentum balance of the entire system. ★Scientific Principle: Newton's first law of motion, abbreviated as Newton's first law, law of inertia, or law of laziness. The property of an object to maintain a state of rest or uniform linear motion is called inertia. Inertia is an inherent property of an object, manifested as a degree of resistance to changes in its state of motion. Mass is a measure of the inertia of an object. When the net external force acting on an object is zero, inertia manifests as the object maintaining its state of motion unchanged, i.e., remaining at rest or in uniform linear motion; when the net external force acting on an object is not zero, inertia manifests as the degree of difficulty for the external force to change the object's state of motion. Under the same external force, an object with smaller acceleration has greater inertia, and an object with larger acceleration has smaller inertia.
