Newton's Second Law
★Exhibit Content: Gravitational acceleration ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: 1. Press the "Start" button to release the carts; 2. Observe which cart reaches the finish line first. ★Exhibit Description: This exhibit demonstrates Newton's second law of motion, F=ma. It consists of three tracks of the same length and inclination angle, three sets of carts, and three sets of plumb bobs. Among the three sets of carts, two have the same mass but different plumb bob masses below (i.e., different pulling forces), and two have the same plumb bob mass below (i.e., the same pulling force) but different masses of weights on the carts. Press the "Start" button to release the three carts simultaneously. Under the same pulling force, the greater the cart's mass, the smaller the acceleration, and the slower the cart; under the same mass, the greater the pulling force, the greater the acceleration, and the faster the cart. ★Scientific Principle: Newton's second law of motion states that the external force acting on an object is equal to the first derivative of momentum with respect to time. When the mass of an object remains constant during motion, Newton's second law can also be expressed as the product of mass and acceleration. Newton's second law is a theory concerning the motion of objects. According to this law, any change in the motion of an object originates from the application of an external force to the object. This theory led to the birth of classical mechanics and is a milestone in the history of science. Previously, theories that merely described natural phenomena were no longer adopted; instead, this new theory established a rational framework of causality. In practice, the strict causal nature of classical mechanics has had a significant impact on the development of Western thought and civilization.
