Sliding and Rolling Friction
★Exhibit Content: Friction ★Interaction: Mechanical interaction ★Operation: Place the two sliders at the starting point, press the button to activate the ejection mechanism, launch the sliders, and observe the difference in their travel distances using the ruler. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit features a set of sliding and rolling friction comparison devices. Visitors can compare the differences between sliding friction and rolling friction through interactive participation and understand the related characteristics. The exhibit mainly consists of a stylized display stand, buttons, sliders, belt-type transmission mechanism, roller-type transmission mechanism, ejection mechanism, ruler, and other parts. By observing the motion states of two identical sliders on these two different transmission mechanisms, the comparative characteristics of sliding friction and rolling friction are demonstrated. ★Scientific Principle: When an object slides on the surface of another object, the phenomenon that hinders their relative sliding on the contact surface is called 'sliding friction'; rolling friction: when an object rolls without slipping or has a tendency to roll on the surface of another object, the resistance to rolling is generated due to deformation of the contact parts under pressure.
