Vacuum Phenomenon
★Exhibit Content: Interactive science popularization experience of physical principles such as sound propagation medium, relationship between air pressure and volume, weight of air, reaction force, and no wind in vacuum ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: After pressing the button, the bell jar is evacuated, and visitors observe the changes inside the bell jar. ★Exhibit Description: The main body of the exhibit is a transparent vacuum bell jar, inside which five sets of experimental devices are placed simultaneously: electric bell, Hero's engine, air balance, fan and cloth strips, pre-inflated balloon. Visitors operate the corresponding buttons on the control panel to start the vacuum pump to extract air from the bell jar, and observe the synchronous changes of the five devices under vacuum, intuitively understanding the physical principles such as sound propagation medium, relationship between air pressure and volume, weight of air, reaction force, and no wind in vacuum. ★Scientific Principle: 1 Can we hear sound without air: Sound propagates through media such as air. In a vacuum, there is no air as a transmission medium. Although the hammer of the electric bell is still striking the bell, we cannot hear the sound. 2 Hero's engine: During the evacuation process, the air inside the sphere needs to balance with the bell jar, so it sprays out from the thin tubes at both ends. Under the action of reaction force, the sphere rotates. 3 Weight of air: There are two bottles at both ends of the balance inside the bell jar, one sealed and one open, and the balance is leveled with weights. After the bell jar is evacuated, because the air in the open bottle is also extracted, the balance tilts. 4 No wind in vacuum: In a vacuum environment, the rotation of the fan cannot stir the air, so it cannot blow the cloth strips in front. 5 Why does a deflated balloon inflate again: After the bell jar is evacuated, the air pressure decreases. The air inside the originally deflated balloon cannot escape, and it exerts outward pressure on the balloon wall, causing the balloon to expand.
