How to Lift Heavy Objects

Force & Mechanics

★Exhibit Content: Lever Principle ★Interaction: Mechanical Interaction ★Operation: 1. Visitors approach the exhibit and read the operation instructions; 2. Pull the ropes at different positions in sequence and observe the changes in the force gauge readings; 3. Compare the force differences at different application points and experience the effect of the length of the force arm on labor-saving. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a lever support, a force gauge, a rope support, and multiple sets of ropes, forming a lever system up to 5.8 meters long. By pulling the ropes connected to the lever at different positions and observing the readings on the force gauge, visitors can intuitively feel the influence of the application point position (length of the force arm) on the required pulling force, thereby deeply understanding the lever balance principle. ★Scientific Principle: The equilibrium condition of a lever is: effort × effort arm = load × load arm. When the load and load arm are fixed, the longer the effort arm, the smaller the required effort. This exhibit sets application points at different positions to let visitors experience the effect of changing the effort arm on labor-saving: when pulling a rope close to the fulcrum (short effort arm), greater force is needed; when pulling a rope far from the fulcrum (long effort arm), only a gentle force is needed to lift the heavy object, intuitively verifying the mechanical law of lever labor-saving.
