Slow Bubbles
★Exhibit Content: Liquid viscosity, bubble motion patterns ★Interaction: Mechanical interaction ★Operation: 1. Visitors approach the exhibit and read the operation instructions; 2. Press the air pump to inject air into the bottom of the container; 3. Observe the rising speed and volume changes of bubbles in different liquids, and compare the differences. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a display stand, transparent acrylic bubble tubes, piston-type air pumps, and silicone oil liquids of different concentrations. By operating the air pump, visitors inject bubbles into the bottom of liquid containers with different densities, intuitively observing the differences in bubble rising speed in liquids of different viscosities, as well as the phenomenon that bubbles gradually increase in volume as pressure decreases during ascent. ★Scientific Principle: The movement of bubbles in liquid is significantly affected by liquid viscosity: in low-viscosity liquids (such as water), bubbles rise quickly and easily burst at the water surface; while in high-viscosity thick liquids, bubbles rise extremely slowly and have higher internal pressure. At the same time, as bubbles rise, with decreasing depth, the surrounding liquid pressure gradually decreases, and the bubble volume gradually expands due to changes in the pressure difference between inside and outside.
