Curious Lever
★Exhibit Content: Lever Principle ★Interaction: Mechanical Interaction ★Operation: 1. Hang weights of the same weight and different weights on the left and right arms of the cartoon character, adjust the position of the weights, and observe the balance of the left and right arms; 2. Observe the internal parallelogram lever structure from the back. ★Exhibit Description: "Singular Lever" is an interactive exhibit for popular science of mechanical principles, specially designed for the physics science exhibition area, and is also a recommended exhibit of PopsciCat Exhibit Store. The exhibit uses a cartoon character model to form a lever mechanism. The left and right arms of the character are T-shaped rod structures. The transparent cover on the back allows observation of the internal structure of the parallelogram "Singular Lever". Weight placement platforms are set on the left and right arms. By hanging weights and adjusting positions, visitors can intuitively experience the relationship between lever balance and torque, breaking the cognitive misunderstanding of traditional levers. ★Scientific Principle: A lever is a rigid object that can rotate around a fixed point. The place on the lever where force is applied is called the force application point, the fixed rotation point is the fulcrum, the distance from the fulcrum to the force application point is called the force arm, and the product of force and force arm is torque. The "Singular Lever" consists of a support (legs), a body lever, T-shaped frames (arms), and weights (counterweights). The body lever is composed of two straight rods, upper and lower. The midpoints of the upper and lower straight rods are respectively hinged to the support. The two ends of the horizontal rods of the two T-shaped frames are respectively fixedly connected to the upper and lower straight rods of the body lever. That is, a parallelogram body and arms are formed. When the left and right arms hang weights of the same weight (regardless of where the weights are hung), because the T-shaped frames make the forces in the left and right vertical directions equal, the torques generated are equal, so it is always in a balanced state. When the horizontal rods (arms) of the left and right T-shaped frames hang weights of different weights (regardless of where the weights are hung), because the forces in the vertical direction are unequal, the torques generated are unequal, so it is always in an unbalanced state. If weights of the same weight are hung on both sides, regardless of where the weights are hung, the lever is balanced; while when the number of weights hung on both sides is unequal, regardless of the position, the rod is always unbalanced.
