3D Lenticular Art

Mobile Science Museum · Optics

Operation: 1) Place the pattern boards of the same group into the corresponding slots; 2) Bring your nose close to the front-surface mirrors and look straight ahead; a three-dimensional pattern will appear in the mirrors. Exhibit Overview: Two front-surface mirrors are arranged at an angle of 50°, with pattern board slots opposite the two mirror surfaces. Each group of pattern boards consists of a left and a right pattern, distinguished by different heights of protrusions and colors. Each pattern board is marked with left or right for easy placement by visitors. Visitors place the pattern boards of the same group into the corresponding slots, bring their nose close to the front-surface mirrors, and look straight ahead; a three-dimensional pattern appears in the mirrors—this is the 3D stereoscopic imaging effect. Scientific Principle: Binocular disparity refers to the horizontal difference in the images on the retinas of the left and right eyes caused by the normal pupillary distance and different fixation angles. Disparity is an objective physical phenomenon of depth information, primarily producing horizontal disparity, which is the physiological basis of stereoscopic vision. Because the distance between an object and the eyes differs, the viewing angles of the two eyes differ, and the images seen from different angles also differ somewhat. The brain perceives a three-dimensional scene based on this difference. Humans have two eyes, separated by about 65mm. When we look at an object, if the retinas of the two eyes are superimposed, their images should coincide, that is, we see a single, clear object.
