Static Bumper Balls
Operation: Press the "Start" button to see the ball swing back and forth. Function Overview: This exhibit consists of a pedestal, an instruction sign, an electrostatic generator, metal balls, and a protective cover, demonstrating electrostatic phenomena. When the visitor presses the start button to activate the exhibit, they will see the suspended ball move back and forth between two fixed balls. Scientific Principle: How does the ball keep bumping around? This exhibit demonstrates the basic characteristics of static electricity—like charges repel, opposite charges attract. The electrostatic generator produces high-voltage static electricity. Due to electrostatic induction, the suspended metal ball becomes charged. When the charge accumulates to a certain level, the charged plates interact with the metal ball, first attracting opposite charges. At this point, the metal ball is attracted to the plate, the charges neutralize and release, and the metal ball becomes charged again and is repelled by the charge on the other plate, pushing the metal ball away. Thus, the metal ball swings left and right, producing a ping-pong sound.
