Archimedes' Diver
Operation: 1. Operate the air pump to inflate the sealed container, and observe the position change of the diver. 2. Press the release button to compare and observe the position change of the diver. Exhibit Overview: This exhibit consists of a sealed transparent container filled with liquid, an air pump, a pressure release mechanism, and a diver, demonstrating Archimedes' principle of floating and sinking. Scientific Principle: As is known, an object immersed in a liquid experiences an upward buoyant force. When the gravitational force equals the upward buoyant force, the object can float in the liquid or at the surface. When the device is not inflated, the diver is only subject to gravity and buoyancy, and is in equilibrium. After inflation, the air pressure increases, and the sum of the gas pressure on the diver and the downward gravity is greater than the buoyant force, so the diver begins to sink. Pressing the release button releases the gas, reducing the gas pressure on the diver; the buoyant force then exceeds the sum of gravity and gas pressure, and the diver begins to rise.
