Snake Pendulum
Operation: Gently pull up the reset plate so that all pendulum balls are pressed against it, then release. The reset plate quickly returns, and the pendulum balls begin simple harmonic motion. Due to different swing periods, a snake-like curve eventually forms. Function Overview: The period of a simple pendulum is inversely proportional to the square of its length. This exhibit uses this principle by placing several pendulums with gradually decreasing lengths in the same plane, with their lower ends aligned and pendulum balls of the same diameter. When all pendulum balls are lifted to the same height and released simultaneously, the difference in swing periods gradually forms a snake-like motion curve. Rotate the limit plate so that all pendulum balls are pressed against it, then release. The limit plate quickly returns, and the pendulum balls begin simple harmonic motion. Due to different swing periods, a snake-like curve eventually forms. Scientific Principle: The exhibit mainly demonstrates the relationship between the period of a simple pendulum and the length of the pendulum string.
